Doom Patrol season 4 has unveiled a new look at a fan favorite character from the comics joining the series and hinted at when audiences can expect the series to return. Based on the DC comic of the same name, Doom Patrol follows the titular team which consists of Robot-Man (Brendan Fraser), Negative Man (Matt Bomer), Rita Farr (April Bowlby), Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero), Cyborg (Jovian Wade) and the recently recruited Madame Rouge (Michelle Gomez). Since the series premiered it has been praised for its embrace of the comic book weirdness as well as the rich characters.

A majority of the series has drawn heavily from the run of Grant Morrison, particularly with the use of characters like Flex Mentallo and Danny the Street. Doom Patrol season 3 saw the team go up against the Sisterhood of Dada, a reimagining of the Morrison-created supervillain team The Brotherhood of Dada. The season finale of Doom Patrol season 3 aired on November 11, 2021, and saw the team traveling through time, and for almost a year viewers have wondered when the Doom Patrol would return for season 4.

Doom Patrol May Be Setting Up Its Final Season

The introduction of a relatively new character from the comics might signify that Doom Patrol is building up to its potential conclusion. Doom Patrol season 5 is in doubt following the recent developments at Warner Bros. Discovery that resulted in the cancelation of the Batgirl movie. Yet with Harley Quinn getting renewed for season 4, and the teased crossover between Titans and Stargirl there could be hope for Doom Patrol to continue onward.

If it were to conclude, it would be fitting for it to end with the introduction of a character created by Gerard Way as the musician's other comic book series, Umbrella Academy will conclude with its upcoming season 4. Doom Patrol and Umbrella Academy form a symbiotic circle. Wade's Umbrella Academy comic was heavily inspired by Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol comics, and it was the success of that comic that inspired DC to bring the legendary musician to relaunch the team in 2016. Both Umbrella Academy season 1 and the first episode of Doom Patrol both premiered on February 15, 2019, so it would be fitting if both series concluded in season 4.
